Abstract
Smartphones have become essential tools for students, offering numerous benefits. However, their widespread use has raised concerns about negative impacts on academic performance and overall well-being. This study examines the impact of smartphone use on secondary school students in Jalalaqsi District, focusing on academic performance, well- being, physical health, and social interactions. It revealed that smartphones are primarily used for entertainment causing academic distractions and decreased performance along with less face-to-face interactions. Excessive use led to sleep disruptions, discomfort, and higher stress. Contextual factors, such as limited parental oversight and a lack of school policies, contribute to misuse. The study recommends implementing structured regulations and awareness campaigns to promote balanced smartphone use. It also calls for collaboration among stakeholders to mitigate the negative effects while leveraging smartphones' educational potential.
